The Who, What, Why and How of Praying for Others.

JOY= Jesus, Others, Yourself

God tells us to serve others. Prayer is one of many forms of serving one another.

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 ESV

Helping others helps you. What do you mean? Well helping others allows you to think of someone else, their needs, gives self satisfaction which aids depression. Also the bible says that when you help others your prayers will be answered faster! Being others focused is a Christ like attitude and we should always do what we do because it is right and not because of what we are going to get out of the situation. However knowledge  is power and now you know.

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
    and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. ” Isaiah 58:7-9 ESV

Who should you pray for?
Anyone who needs it! Prayer is so powerful and important that we are even instructed to pray for our enemies.

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44 ESV

When can you pray?

Whenever you want! Whenever others need! Without ceasing!

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22 ESV

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

How to pray?
In Jesus name!

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14
